Mineral oils are petroleum products used as lubricants for vehicle engines and industrial plants. Used mineral oils contain 15-20% additives that are considered dangerous (aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene and toluene, benzopyrene, sulfur, nitrogen, etc.) and 5% lead. Those that contain a large amount of pollutants and impurities are unsuitable for recycling and are treated as toxic waste.

The recycling of mineral oils aims at the collection of clean lubricants, after preceding the removal of contaminants, impurities and oxidation products. Sources of used mineral oils are vehicle repair shops, military installations, ports, machine shops, etc.
